Sweet Potato Festival
Dedications & In Remembrance
ERWIN MAURICE ROBINSON "LET THE WORK I DO SPEAK FOR ME"
"Let the work I do speak for me . . ." If there was ever one that lived those words, it was Erwin. For he truly realized and embodied the importance of "giving back." Erwin grew up in the Jacksonville Community and began working in the community as a teenager. He also worked in the church and the Historic Jacksonville Park along with Marigene Washington and other community leaders. After moving back home in 1989, Erwin immediately continued volunteer work in the Jacksonville Community.
After realizing needs in the community and sharing concerns with other citizens, the Jacksonville Community Commission was conceived. After the Commission was formed, the Sweet Potato Festival was started as an event to celebrate the community and raise funds for the Jacksonville Community Commission annual outreach and community service projects and activities. Erwin constantly worked in every possible way to make the festival a success each year as well as the Jacksonville Community and the Commission. He served as the founding president of the Jacksonville Community Commission. Let us continue to "pass the torch" and illuminate his vision for our community, state, and nation!
SAMUEL "SAMMY" HARRIS, SR "GREATLY LOVED, GREATLY MISSED"
We will always love Sammy Harris. He was a dedicated friend of the Jacksonville Community Commission and member of the Jacksonville Community. Sammy supported the Sweet Potato Festival from the very beginning. As a former employee and #1 salesman of Milton Reuben Motors, Inc. Sammy used a car from Milton Ruben each year to drive the Sweet Potato Queen in the local Midland Valley Christmas Parade. We could count on him every year. As a member of the Jacksonville Community, he always gave a helping hand to his church, community, and the CSRA at large. We will always remember Sammy, especially his warm smile and loving heart.
